The Institute on Aging (IOA) is committed to promoting equity and diversity in a positive climate for all faculty, staff, students and employees-in-training. An Equity and Diversity Plan was developed in 2005 under the guidance of its Director, Dr. Carol Ryff, and specific steps outlined in that plan are being carried out. The Plan is a living document that will be evaluated and updated regularly.
The Biology of Aging and Age-Related Diseases Training Grant is incorporated in the IOA’s Plan but also has its own strong minority recruitment and retention plan. Its Director, Dr. Sanjay Asthana, is very committed to promoting diversity among trainees.
At the campus level, UW-Madison has developed Plan 2008, which is designed to make institutional improvements to achieve greater campus equity and diversity.
